Boondocks: Strong in the Heart
In season one of Aaron McGruder’s award-winning cartoon, The Boondocks, Dr. Martin Luther King wakes from a 30-year coma to discover the fruits of his cultural revolution entranced by Black Entertainment Television, fake-ass gangster wrap and benign, consumer or “nigga” technology.
By the end of the episode, he’s tells a crowd of well-wishers that they’re a bunch of “… ignorant niggers …. I’m going to Canada.”
Comic strips have a hard time transferring from the funny pages to the tele. Who wants to see B.C. in syndication? At first, I was a little unsure of how well The Boondocks was pulling it off. It felt odd seeing McGruder’s characters engaging in fluid dialogue. Luckily, the character development is spot on.

The Boondocks is smart, militant, inflammatory, and funny. It may be the perfect show.
