Money 101: Chalabi’s Lobby
Even though I’m a heavy liberal with more than my fair share of cynicism and distrust, it’s difficult for me to make broad generalizations about the impetus for our war with Iraq (or Saddam, or terrorists or whomever we are targeting). To say, “It’s all about oil,” or “It’s all about money,” or even, “It’s all about revenge,” isn’t very helpful, and it’s certainly off the mark. Nevertheless, it is foolish to believe that the U.S. is engaged in a sincere and righteous battle between good and evil.
In an effort to follow some of the money, I spent some time reading an article about Ahmad Chalabi that was printed in The Nation. Who knows if we’ll ever sort out all the motives for this conflict, but if we do, Chalabi is certainly to play a role.
